ART & DESIGN
At St Alban’s, we consider Art and Design to be an integral part of children’s holistic development. With the needs of our children solely at the heart of our intent, we provide a high quality curriculum to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
From the first stages of school life, children are encouraged to evaluate their works of art so they can continue to develop and improve their skills. As pupils progress, they can then think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design as well as build confidence in their own artistic ability.

Our children are able to explore the ideas and meanings behind the work of local, contemporary and classic artists and craftspeople throughout their time at St Alban’s. This enables them to learn about the diverse roles and functions of art, craft and design in contemporary life, and in different times and cultures.
They produce creative work through exploring their ideas and become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
From Goldsworthy and Warhol to Phidias and Monet, children will know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
